A decade ago, Solana Beach had a relatively healthy back beach; this coastline then had virtually no erosion.

Save the bluffs,
rebuild the beach...

it's the right thing to do!

I strongly urge members of City Council to move forward and make the hard decision. I trust that you will make that decision on a timely basis and not let the process stall any further. Please kill the concept of Planned Retreat once and for all. Thanks again for your good work.

Dear [Decision maker's name automatically inserted here],

For the attention of City Council and Staff:

I would like to thank the City Council and Staff for bringing the process of reviewing the topics of Planned Retreat, the existing shoreline ordinance, the LCP and the GHAD to the point we have reached. However, I feel it is imperative that the Council now move to make a clear decision on the topic of Planned Retreat. Please do not believe that setting up a citizen's committee, at this late date, to review possible compromises between opposition groups, will have any chance of making progress.

Setting up such a committee will only result in a stalling of your process and will further complicate the issue. Stalling the issue is also a tactic of the proponents of Planned Retreat. Please do not waste time on a fruitless committee at this late date.

The City and the citizens have worked hard on this process for years and much good work has been done. But the time has come for the City Council to stand up and make the decisions they were elected to make. Please do not compromise this process and/or set us back in time. We trust and believe in the City Council and we are looking for your vision and leadership on this tough issue. Please stand up and make your common sense decision and make it soon.

As City Council well knows, thousands of Solana Beach property owners stand against Planned Retreat. The Union Tribune has reflected this common sense position on two occasions in their editorials and also backs the idea of voting against Planned Retreat, once and for all. Their latest editorial on March 25th, calls for your vote against Planned Retreat and this reflects the public interest and the wishes of Solana Beach's citizenry. In that editorial, the UT writes, "Making such decisions is what council members have been elected to do. And to pass the buck now, even as bluffs are falling, is cowardly. Since January, they have had a report from the city staff that tells them where to head: away from "planned retreat"."

I strongly urge members of City Council to move forward and make the hard decision. I trust that you will make that decision on a timely basis and not let the process stall any further. Please kill the concept of Planned Retreat once and for all. Thanks again for your good work.

Sincerely,
